Lines Companies Solar Application Fees

All lines companies require consent. If you are going to be exporting solar power to their power lines, then they need to know!  Most solar installation companies take care of this process for you, but here are the details if you'd like to know.

Lines companies want to make sure that the technical specifications of your system meet their prerequisites.

If you install a solar power system larger than 10kW, your network may require you to limit how much power you export to the grid - often to 10kW, and sometimes less.

To find lines companies' application fees and applications forms for each area of New Zealand, please see the list below. Please note the observation and testing fee is only applied if required.

Please note most of these application fees are for connections that use pre-approved inverters (Part 1A), if not there may be an extra cost (Part 1). 

Part 1A (simplified pathway) applies to systems up to 10kW with a pre-approved inverter and approves applications within 10 business days. Part 1 applies if your inverter is compliant but not on the network's pre-approved list and takes up to 30 business days. Most residential solar systems qualify for Part 1A and get faster approval.  If you see two application prices below the cheaper fee is for those in Part 1A, the more expensive is Part 1 (if that network has decided to adopt a more expensive fee).
